Please see the message below from Connie Crowe,
Special Olympics Agency Manager – School District of Waukesha
As the new volunteer Special Olympics agency manager for the School District of Waukesha, I am contacting you to ask you share with our students the opportunity to join Special Olympics. The Waukesha Rockets represent our School District and is comprised of over 45 students from 8 – 21 years of age who compete in bowling, basketball and/or swimming. I’m sharing this information with you so you can help recruit eligible students.
We are currently in the midst of our bowling season. We bowl on Monday from 4:15-5:30 at Sunset Bowl. Our regional bowling competition is October 22 at AMF Bowlero Lanes in Wauwatosa. The bowling “season” ends November 13.
We are looking forward to the basketball season beginning in December with Thursday evening practices at White Rock Campus. For basketball there are 2 different opportunities.
- The first is skills basketball which is the where the athletes focus on the skills of basketball and individually compete according to each athletes ability. Practice for this is on Thursdayevening from 6:00 – 7:00. Skills basketball may wait until January to begin.
- The second is team basketball. We currently have 6 returning athletes and are looking for more interested athletes. Practices for this is on Thursday from 4:45 – 6:00. The athletes love adult competition. So if you are looking for a work out come join us!
Our final season of the year is swimming which begins in January at North High School and concludes in May.
Throughout the year we are in need of student volunteers (14 years old and up) to help at practices with both of the basketball groups and swimming. These students would need to complete a volunteer form which can be completed through the volunteer link below. This is a great opportunity to earn service hours!
We would love to add track, but would be in need of a place to practice and coaches. Please consider signing up to be a Special Olympics volunteer for our athletes. They need you to cheer them on at competitions.
